I have been using the turfmaster for a week now and I am very happy with this machine. I have not encountered any problems going up hills as other reviewers have stated. Machine does tend to slide mowing hills sideways. The engine runs smoothly and very happy with speed of cut. The wheel height is very easy to adjust and especially happy with this feature. I am 6'5" so was also very happy to discover the handle bar is adjustable!

Rated 1 out of 5??by chuck25 very dissapointed
In 15 months of owning this mower, the transmission has had to be replaced three times. The blade brake bracket has frozen twice on the bushing causing the blade brake and the pulley it stops and the belt to be damaged and replaced. I've had to replace the rear tire assembly at just over a year at $60.00 each. The rear axles bend very easily, causing uneven wear on the tires and the gears. The front tires now need replaced. Why would such a heavy mower have hollow tires that split and have to be replaced before you can use the machine again?? The motor has come loose from the deck. The drive cable has broken. The oil filter housing came loose from the motor and had to be replaced. The catcher is not strong enough for the added weight of the extra grass and didn't last a year. I would think long and hard before buying another Toro. I like the concept of this mower, but I think Toro rushed it into production, without adequate testing.

Rated 1 out of 5??by Rolando DO NOT PURCHASE THIS MOWER
I got this mower for my business and have so many different issues (engine smoke, no power on hill side areas, bad bagging). The transmission stop working and was replaced and cover by toro after one years of use . They give me 90 days on transmission warranty and right after 105 days is broken aging.
Really bad mower for a commercial grade.

Rated 3 out of 5??by MemphisLandscaper transmission problems
I liked this mower a lot for the first 14 months of ownership. Like all Toros, grass frequently got stuck in the shoot. It also has trouble climbing. But, being able to lift it in and out of my truck for the commercial jobs I do, rather than using a trailer, has been great. However, the blades quit engaging and I have now learned that the clutch in the transmission has burnt up. Colonial Hardware in Memphis says it will cost me $362. $362 to fix a 14 month old mower that was not misused is really frustrating. The warranty on that part of the mower is only one year. Engine warranty is 3 years but the transmission is not included in that. I found many other people are complaining about problems with these transmissions. I liked the mower until this happened. I just think Toro created it with a design flaw and should correct the problem at their expense rather than mine. A burnt up transmission at 14 months with no misuse is ridiculous.

I think bigger wheels would make a big difference. It is a bit hard to work on gound that is not perfectly level.
Engine seems to labor when "mulching" damp grass.
Don't have 5 hours usage yet, but engine smokes briefly on startup. Restarts do not but when it sits a week it will smoke a few seconds.
The self propell has great power. Mower just doesn't like unlevel ground and damp grass.

Ok so I own a landscaping company and have about 30 accounts . a few years back I bought the timecutter and I hated it. So silly me figured the turfmaster was a commercial use upgraded version of this and boy was I wrong it still doesn't bag wet grass the shoot just gets clogged I don't even go out if the grass is wet, it Boggs very bad in taller grass, it is a complete sled on hills like the transmoaaion does nothing it's like it just shuts down. And it is very heavy so if your someone not using a trailer this is going to be back breaking to load in and out of a pickup all day. But if you have a bunch of accounts with no hills that you never have to cut wet by all means this is for you. I can say I have had no serious mechanical problems except sometimes the blades don't like to dis engage. Just not what I was expecting out of a so called commercial mower.

Let me start by saying I am a Toro fan. I was concerned about the few bad reviews on this mower, but I figured that those people were sour grapes and had unreasonable expectations. I could not have been more wrong, those people were not "sour grapes" they were right on the money. This mower is a good concept, but Toro should have waited longer to release this model to the market. The manufacturing process is not up to par. I got the mower on a Friday, started it up Saturday morning to test it and it ran like a champ. 20 minutes later when I went to use the mower the pull cord would not pull, it was jammed. Then, I smelled gas, which I later saw leaking out from under the air filter. The plunger must have stuck and the engine was flooded. After fixing the issue and getting the mower to start the blades would not turn on and then mower flooded again. It is now at the shop where the technician said these mowers are a nightmare and come in with all sorts of problems, I want my money back!
