Advantages of Aerification

The principal function of aerification is to relieve soil compaction, layering and thatch accumulation. There is also the improved water infiltration rate resulting from the aerification practice.
Aerification:

  • Physically loosens compacted soil
  • Improves gas exchange (CO2, O2) in the root zone (aeration)
  • Improves drainage
  • Mixes soil with thatch to increase decomposition
  • Breaks up & speeds decomposition of organic matter in the root zone
  • Stimulates root growth
  • Aids in overseeding, sodding & renovation
  • Allows long term modification of soil composition in the root zone when done in combination with topdressing
  • Aids in the management of hydrophobic soils and localized dry spots
